Grades: K-12
Skill Area: Classroom management
What it does: If you're not using Class Dojo in your class, you are missing out!! Class Dojo allows you to give feedback on behavior instantly! All you do is enter your students' name and award them with merits or demerits.
Why I love it: Class Dojo is awesome! Students get so excited when you award them merits and instantly correct their behavior when you give them demerits. It's really helped me manage my classroom better. I keep it pulled up on our smart board and award points constantly. I also love how the students' parents can log on and view their child's report. Such a great app!!
App: Storyrobe
Grades: K-12
Skill Area: Writing
What it does: Storyrobe allows you to create and your own story using pictures and voice recordings.
Why I love it: My students love this app! They'll spend any free time they have making a story for our class. I love it too because it's something we can work on together, in groups, or individually. Whenever we work on a writing project, I always have my early finishers make their finished product into a story on Storyrobe. It's great because they're focused on something that interests them, and it doesn't distract my other students.
App: Kids Coin Fun
Grades: K-5
Skill area: Math
What it does: Kids Coin Fun is a great app that teaches
students about money, more specifically, coins. Students can learn about
various coins, how to count them, how to add money, and give change.
Why I love it: I like using this app in my classroom to help
reinforce my lessons. The students don’t look at the app as a learning tool
because, to them, it’s a game, so they’re eager to get to the math station with
the fun games. I think it’s important for my students to start learning about
money now, so that they can be responsible with it in the future.

App: Jumbline 2
Grade: 2nd
Skill area: spelling
What it does: Jumbline 2 allows the users to practice their spelling by rearranging the scrambled letters into words. The user underlines the words with their finger. When the user finds and underlines the largest word, they get to advance to the next level.
Why I love it: I love this app because it gets my students to practice spelling words and learn new words without them realizing it. They love to play this game whenever they get any free time. I even love to play it, too! I've noticed a change in my students' spelling and they've developed a new hobby of looking up the words they don't know.
App: Don't Let the Pigeons Run This App!
Grade: K-5
Skill area: Reading
What it does: This app lets you create your own pigeon stories by asking you questions, creating your story, and lets you record your own voice as a part of the story.
Why I love it: I love this app because it was created by three-time Caldecott Honoree, Mo Willems! This app includes characters from his books, his voice as narration, and your students' voices! Students love it because it's fun and silly, but I love it because it teaches them about creating stories. My students could play on this app for hours!

I have seen elementary teachers use this app, and the kids do love it. Good choice. One note--title this page iPad Reviews.
ReplyDeleteI have not used this app before, but it sounds great!
ReplyDeleteThe Coin Fun app is a good way to reinforce money using a game format. Kids are easily engaged in the lesson because of how interactive it is. Sounds like it would be a good math station activity, too.
